Tri-M Music Honor Society to Hold Recital

On Wed., April 23, 2014, the Bel Air High School Chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society will be performing at their annual recital.

The Tri-M National Honor Society is an honor society that focuses on scholars in the Band, Chorus and Orchestra.

The recital is a requirement for Tri-M members to maintain their position in the Honor Society. The tradition of the recital began in 2010 when Tri-M was founded under the direction of honor society advisors, Anthony Domenico and Terri Mathews, band director and chorus director respectively.

“We felt that music students needed to be recognized for their academic prowess because sometimes, people think that music students just kind of play for fun and that’s all there is to it, but they don’t fully understand how much intellect it takes to be a musician”, explained Mr. Domenico, Tri-M Advisor.

Tri-M members must also fulfill their requirement of membership by performing with the Dynamic Performers group in the community.  The group was inspired by Lauren Hawkins in 2010.

“I started organizing events for Dynamic Performers this year, and I feel it’s important for it to be a requirement of the Tri-M because it’s our own special way of contributing to the community,” said Senior Sam Bittle, Tri-M Historian and Dynamic Performers Coordinator.

The members started preparing for the recital in November when they first chose the musical selections they were going to perform.  They also held a mock performance in front of their advisors on March 27 to ensure that they were adequately prepared.

“I truly believe that the recital is one of the more important things we do as an honor society, and what sets us apart from all the other honor societies is that we are first and foremost musicians. We have a requirement to go and perform on stage every year. I think that’s really special because if we weren’t musicians, this honor society wouldn’t event exist”, Senior Cleo Megan Rolocut, Tri-M President, explained.

The recital will take place on Thu., April 23 in the BAHS Auditorium at 7:00 P.M. All are welcome to attend.
