9th Grader Starts Weekly Yoga Classes

Yoga classes for all students will be starting at Bel Air High School on Thu., Apr. 3, 2014, from 2:15 P.M. to 3:15 P.M. in the wrestling room and will take place every following Thursday at the same time.

The class will be available to any student interested, no matter their skill level or experience. For each class, students are recommended to bring a comfortable change of clothes, water, and a yoga mat. If students do not have a mat then they will be provided by the physical education department.

Brogan Gerhart, ninth grade student at BAHS, was inspired to create this class when she discovered all the benefits yoga can provide. Along with bringing yoga to the school, Gerhart has also volunteered her services by planning to teach the class.

When describing what had motivated her to start the class, Gerhart stated, “I began my yoga journey last summer, starting off simple, and then slowly working my way up to more difficult postures. After a few months of practice, I noticed that I had more energy and focus throughout the day. I also noticed that I had not only gotten stronger physically, but mentally as well. I was more confident with myself and the world around me. My attitude had changed. My outlook on life had improved. I was just a happier person. Everyone deserves to be the happiest they can be, and I believe yoga can help them do that.”

Students around the school are very excited about this opportunity and cannot wait for class to begin.

Ashree Shah, a tenth grader at BAHS, gave her opinion on the new activity. “I think it’s a really good idea! It’s a great opportunity for people to stay fit while relaxing after school.”

The class is no charge to students. Don’t pass up the opportunity to realign yourself with BAHS yoga.
