To be considered for NHS membership, students have to successfully distinguish their role in the classroom by maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. They also reflect responsible qualities in order to prove their experience in the four pillars of NHS: scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Students must also earn service hours to stay in the NHS throughout the school year.

The NHS members are recognized for their academic accomplishments. They help out with many activities such as American Education Week, Baccalaureate, Graduation, Freshmen Orientation Day, tutoring other students, and many other activities.

Taylor Brethauer, the newly elected president of the NHS, says, “I’m excited for next year because all four of us have really good ideas and I think we’ll work together really well.”

“I’m really excited to work with the other people that were elected because we have a lot of the same ideas,” says Sydney Schoff, the newly elected secretary of the NHS. “It’ll be nice to be working with people when we’re on the same page.”

As current NHS officers – Ben Barsam, Sarah Hawkins, Mike Koscinski and Megan Scarry – depart the BAHS student body, the new officers have big shoes to fill and we can’t wait to see what they have in the works!
