A Walk In Their Student’s Shoes: Parents Attend Back to School Night

On Tues., Aug. 26 at 6:00 p.m. to 8:25 p.m., parents of BAHS students came to Bel Air High School to get to know their children’s teachers and go through their daily high school schedule.

At 6:00 p.m., all parents reported to their child’s homeroom. They spent 15 minutes listening to Mr. Komondor talk to them via the school broadcast, The Cat’s Eye. During this broadcast, the PTSA President, Kelly Ascenzi, and The Booster Club President, Chuck Hamrick, spoke to the parents about this year’s expectations. The students’ schedules for the parents waited for them on the child’s desk. They then made their way to their classes.

Bel Air High School has four 90 minute classes each day, rotating on an A and B day schedule. The parents went through their child’s A day classes first, and then moved to the B day classes. The parents spent 10 minutes in each classroom. Teachers talked about the curriculum they will be covering in the 2014-2015 school year. The teachers also talked about the supplies needed in order to be successful in their classes. Parents could express any concerns or questions they had to the teachers.

Lisa Randlett, a parent of a student at Bel Air High School, says, “I enjoyed meeting my daughter’s teachers, but the school is very big and confusing.”

P.E. Uniforms, Bobcat gear, and game passes were also sold for parents to get their hands on early.

Bianca Ascenzi, a junior at Bel Air High School says, “It was cool to see all the parents going through their kid’s schedules like they were in school.”

If you were unable to make it to Back to School night and you have any unanswered questions for your child’s teacher, you can contact them from your child’s Edline account. Back to School Night was a success; we hope to see everyone again next year!
