Softball Wins in Tie Breaker

On Wed., Mar. 27, 2014, the Bel Air High School Girls’ Softball Team beat Perryville High School 2-1 in extra innings. The game was played at Bel Air High School.

In the 1st inning of the game, Rising Sun was able to score an unearned run, putting the bobcats down 1-0. Pitcher Rayn Gibson recorded 16 strikeouts against the Panthers, holding them to a one run lead.  However, the Bobcats were unable to score in the first five innings, striking out 6 times themselves.  In the 6th inning, Taylor Hensley was walked and eventually scored an unearned run on a wild pitch, tying the game 1-1.

The teams went through the 7th inning without scoring any additional runs.  The game then went into International Tie Breaker. ITB is a situation in which the runner who made the last out of the last inning is placed on 2nd base to start the inning.  Rising Sun was unable to get a bunt down and advance their runner to third base, ending the inning.

Rayn Gibson bunted in her at bat, sending Taylor Hensley to third base. Hensley then scored on a wild pitch again to win the game for the Bobcats 2-1. The Bobcats’ record is now 2-0.
