Girls’ Lacrosse Season Comes to a Close

The Bel Air Bobcats Girls’ Lacrosse Team took on the Catonsville Comets at Bel Air High School for the 3A/4A Regional Championship on May 14, 2014. The Bobcat’ were coming off a victory against Perry Hall.

The game started off in the Comets’ favor, as they scored with 20:51 to go in the first half, going up 1-0. The Bobcats were able to fire back quickly as Junior Sam Keesey scored, tying the game at 1. The Bobcats went up by 1 with a goal from Junior Shannon Williams with 18:54 to go in the first half.  The next goal was scored by Freshman Anna Farley, putting the Lady Bobcats up 3-1. The Comets battled back and scored with 17:27 to go, cutting the lead to 3-2.  The Comets were able to then tie the game up at 3 with 16:17 to go in the first half. Williams then scored again to put Bel Air back in the lead. Shortly after, Catonsville responded with another goal to tie. The rest of the half went scoreless, and the game sat tied at 4 at the halftime whistle.

The Comets were able to strike first in the second half, making the score 5-4. Shannon Williams scored again, just 14 seconds later, to tie the game at 5. The Comets were able to reclaim the lead, going up 6-5 with 21:44 remaining in the game.  Sophomore Gabby Hall was able to tie the game up for the Lady Bobcats at 6-6 with 21:02 to go in the game. The Comets were able to go ahead with a 7-6 lead with 14:34 remaining in the game.  Farley was able to tie the game up for the Bobcats one last time, as she scored with 11:05 remaining. Unfortunately the Comets took control at this point, going on a 3-0 run to end the game, scoring with 8:03, 6:47 and 6:18 remaining. The Lady Bobcats lost the game 10-7 after a hard fought, back and forth affair.

Senior Captain Tori Gryglewski was very proud of her team’s season, and shared her thoughts following the game. “I couldn’t be more proud of our team. We ended the season with a fight. We have accomplished so much as a team and have come so far. We all walked off that field proud because we proved ourselves to everyone that we deserved to be [in the Regional Championship]. Even though it came to an end, this is one season we will never forget.”
