Senior Year From a Junior’s Perspective

With senior year around the corner, junior’s views have changed drastically since freshman year. When we first entered the building we couldn’t wait to be seniors. Of course, at that time we didn’t really know what we were getting ourselves into. It felt like it would take forever to leave this building with four years ahead of us but as it comes to a quick end we didn’t realize exactly how much will change after we leave.

All you ever heard freshman year was “enjoy it while you can!” but it always felt like it would take forever until we could actually call ourselves seniors. But now we are in our junior year with only a few days left. Our senior schedule is planned, AP tests are over and the 2014 senior class has graduated. But for some reason it still doesn’t seem real that it will be us graduating next year.

Freshman and sophomores look at the seniors and can’t wait to be in their shoes. But now, being juniors it seems like the most stressful year is about to come. Senior year is expensive; and a lot of planning and hard decision making is needed. No one really has any idea how much stress is involved in senior year until you are going through it. So much money is put forth throughout senior year, through various activities you will participate in including the senior trip, prom, the tickets, your dress and tux, senior pictures, and of course your cap and gown for graduation. Getting yourself prepared for college, including making the decision on where you want to attend, putting in your applications, the final crunch for SATs take place and the overwhelming feeling that a new part of your life is about to start , is all taking place within your senior year of high school.  No one really seems fully prepared and aware of what’s really going to come.

“My views have definitely changed in the past three years. At first I couldn’t wait to leave but now I don’t want to go,” said Aristea Burdusi, junior at Bel Air.

Torie Forerester, Bel Air junior says, “Of course I’m excited to experience all the privileges and exciting things that occur when being a senior, I just don’t want it to end.”

Are we really ready to soon make that final step and leave everyone we’ve known behind? We have to trust ourselves. Trust our teachers and parents that they’ve taught us well and prepared us for this special moment ahead of us. Looking back on our years throughout high school, I realize how much everyone has grown and changed. We know that deep down inside, we really are ready. With a familiar part of our life soon coming to an end and a new chapter in our lives about to start I’m sure everyone has their own views on senior year; but I think everyone can agree it was an honor being a Bobcat.
