What Students Really Do Over the Summer

Before the school year ends, many students make big plans for what they’ll be doing over the summer, but are these plans really that big? What are students really doing for the majority of summer vacation?

It’s common knowledge that students will often do something big over the summer, whether it’s going out of the country, participating in a competition, attending a concert, whatever it may be. However, when they aren’t doing any of that, what are they doing?

For the majority of the summer, you can find students just doing what they normally do during the school year. Sleeping, working, spending time with friends, playing video games, playing sports, even doing school work assigned to them over the summer. For students, summer is just a period of time where they can continue doing what they’ve been doing, free from school’s shackles. Well, for the most part (sorry AP students).

“I spent most of my summer sleeping in, playing video games, and hanging out with my friends. When you don’t have to worry about school, you can find yourself with a lot of free time,” said Zach Moran, soon to be senior at Calvert Hall.

This monotony is what summer vacation is all about. It isn’t so much about the big stuff, that’s just something sprinkled on top. It’s more about just slowing down and taking it easy as you go about your normal life.

“I really wasn’t as excited about going on vacation as I was just settling down for a while after an exhausting school year,” said Luke Levie, soon to be freshman at Bel Air High School.

Don’t wear yourself out during summer vacation. You should save all of that energy for the school year. For students, summer time is a time of relaxation, so just relax and keep doing whatever it is you do.
